Gerber Soothe colic drops for a baby with colic
Here’s our story
When my son was 2 or 3 weeks old he started getting really fussy in the evenings. We thought it was just gas or stomach issues. We tried things like gripe water and gas drops but nothing seemed to help. It got to the point that from 6pm to 9pm every evening he would just scream at the top of his lungs. Nothing helped. My husband, my mom and I would all take turns trying to soothe him without any luck.
We took Cole for his 1 month appointment when he was about 6 weeks old. After hearing our struggle the doctor suggested trying the Gerber Soothe drops. She never really “diagnosed” him with colic. Since he had all the text book symptoms and the Dr. suggest colic drops we labeled our son as a colicky baby.
We would have given anything a try at this point.
When she suggest the drops we went to Babies R Us and bought some. These things are not cheap! $28 for a tiny little bottle that barely last a month, so I was already thinking that they better be magic or I couldn’t see myself buying them again. I did a lot of research and read a ton of reviews on these before we gave him any. I was reading that for some it took a week or more to show any difference in their baby. Reading of a few babies having stomach issues on the drops did make me a little nervous.
So, here is our experience.
We started him on the drops a couple of days after we went for his appointment. Within 2 days I could tell some difference in my baby in the evenings. He had started to go from screaming at the top of his lungs to just being fussy. That fussiness was hit or miss but no longer consistent within just one week. It was a HUGE relief! The afternoons were almost enjoyable now. Cole never had any issues with his stomach or gas or anything while on the drops. He only had 1 or 2 dirty diapers a day, and our Dr. said that’s perfectly normal for his age.
Getting off the colic drops…
I read that most babies grow out of colic when they are 3-4 months old. When Cole was almost 4 months old he had turned into a very happy baby all the time. We decided to take him off of the drops from a few days to see how he would do. There was a delay, I guess for the drops to get out of his system, then our fussy baby was back. We put him back on the drops within a week.
Another thing I noticed was that he had far more dirty diapers than usual. Far more frequent, but never full diapers like he had before but they were . He also had the hiccups very often. Now those two things could have been a coincidence and just happen to occur the same time he was off the drops but that was just our experience.
My baby turned 5 months old today and we have been off the drops for a week and a half with no side effects at all! He did start baby food last week as well but the frequency of dirty diapers is not like it was before. He has had some hiccups again but no fussy times in the evenings at all.
The Gerber Soothe colic drops were magic for us!
They helped my baby so much and got us through a very difficult time. If you are experiencing what you think may be colic I would highly suggest these! They are well worth the money! I also have some great tips for relieving a gassy baby without medication that will help out with some colic symptoms as well! Having a colicky baby is more challenging than some understand but to know something is out there that can help and you are not alone can make all the difference! Good luck!
