Our first month of baby food
Yay for baby food!
I couldn’t have been more excited for my baby to experience his first taste of real food! Everything you read says baby can have baby food or cereal at 4-6 months. Our doctor told us to wait until our little one was 5 months old and to start him on veggies. Shortly before he turned 5 month our baby boy got his first taste of food. I did jump the gun about a week and a half. I decided to make his food myself.
Here we go!
Our doctor said one food per week so we could see if he had any allergy or reactions or stomach irritations to it. We began feeding him one oatmeal “meal” a day. After a few days he seemed to want more so we just followed his demand. We never force fed him more than he wanted. After trying oatmeal a few times it seemed to be rough on his stomach, so we cut it out and did strictly veggies.
Strictly veggies worked best for us!
My husband and I decided to start with peas since they weren’t very sweet. That way he wouldn’t expect food with a sweeter taste than his milk. He wasn’t a huge fan of peas, and still isn’t. The second week we let him try avocados, and they are still his favorite. The third week he had carrots, and the fourth zucchini.
The first two weeks we stuck to strictly one veggie a week, but on the third week we started letting him have a few of the veggies he had already tried in prior weeks for dinner. Everyone needs a little variety in their life! We still stuck to the new food for lunch everyday for the whole week to watch for allergies. My baby boy started out eating 1/4-1/2 of a 2oz cup per feeding and ended the month with eating a whole baby bullet cup every time he got in the high chair to eat.
He’s such a good eater!
I still love watching him try new foods and grow! I know this wasn’t quite like the usual post I write here but I just wanted to share with you all a quick bit about our first month. If you want to know how I make my homemade baby food check it out here! I’d love to hear your baby’s experiences too!
